iPhones. iPads. iPods. Androids. Tablets. Nooks. Kindles. Big-Screen TV's. Noise. All day long.

If you have been reading my posts, I have often exhorted my readers to plant a garden. I wasn't saying this just to have something to say. I saw the importance of a garden a few years ago. How many of you paid attention?

The economy wasn't the best but it was far from what it is now. I even stated that learning to Can was a great way to store food. Did you take the hint?

Rough seas are ahead of us, Sisters and Brothers. Very turbulent times. Times that may bring great distress. Are you really seeing? Are you really hearing? Are you really paying attention? Be honest with yourself. Do you think that this society/economy can continue the way it has been going?

THINK!!! Take off the rose-coloured glasses and look at what is taking place around you!

I feel it in the air. Uneasiness. Something is getting ready to come down and it is going to catch Americans by surprise. Many will NOT be prepared.

This is just an example, ok? The big Banks in Europe who are part of the EU start to call a "Bank Holiday" one by one. Their citizens run to the Banks only to find out that (a)they can only take out a small portion of their monies or (b)they can't get nothing at all. The ATM's have been shut down. They can't get nothing at all so they have to use what Cash they have on them.

*HINT*: Keep as much of your cash on your person that is safely possible. Only keep enough in your bank account to take care of expenses. Create a safe place to hide your cash and only tell 1 or 2 people where it is hidden just in case something happens to you!

Well, people are optimistic. They can go 1 day to a week of not having anything but food begins to run out, bills need to be paid, mortgages, rents. Still, the banks are not opening. Crowds begin to form and, well, you get the picture. Take a look at Greece. Whether you want to face it or not, we are involved with their economies. You think that it could not happen here? Really? Do you bet your life and the lives of those you love on that belief?

What are all these "foreign" troops doing in America? Anyone seen evidence of this? I have. Why are American troops basically overseas a lot? Hmmm...I wonder....innocent situation? We shall see.

Food prices are climbing every day and the nuclear meltdown in Fukishima has started to harm the fishing industry. Don't believe me? A fisherman stated that his crew can't find as much fish as they used to. The debris from that horrible scene is beginning to wash ashore on the beaches of other countries. Contamination.

Water. You can live 30 days without food but 3 or less days without water.

*HINT*: Get as much water as you can!!! This is imperative and store it in glass bottles. Water shall become the Silver and Gold that many prize. Hmmm, some may even kill for it.

Food. Water. Some Cash. Safety. These things mean so much. I am begging you. I am pleading with you. Plant that garden. Get that water. You can call me a fool. I'll take that. BUT, one day, you may remember that I wrote this little missive. Me, a nobody, a nothing. Get safe food while you still can. I could be wrong but I see times of distress ahead.

Do you have eyes to see and ears to hear? Prepare yourselves mentally, physically, emotionally, financially BUT especially spiritually as the years go on. I don't care who you pray to. I really don't. Just pray and each one, bless one.

I didn't know how to write this. I worried over this for some time but I just felt compelled to write this. You can take it or let it alone. As the Boy Scouts always say: "Be Prepared!"

May my "feelings" be found wanting. Buuuttt.......

Here's a question posed yesterday by one of Sister's readers which may be helpful to you in understanding that your vegetarian  or vegan journey is an individual, creative, and life-discovering journey of opportunities as I indicated in Sister Vegetarian's 31 Days of Drama-Free Living:

Question from Reader per 7/30/11 post "A Proper Cup Of Tea British Style: All homemade- Vegan British-Style Scones and Strawberry Preserves; Vegan Cucumber Sandwiches; Loose Leaf Tea"

"so do you drink your breakfast tea black? I've always drank it w/ milk and soy milk is gross in tea - do I have to basically give up black tea? It's not proper for me unless there is a splash of milk. HELP?! please. "

Sister Vegetarian's Answer:
There are no rules to drinking tea or coffee. I just prefer my tea and coffee normally plain (without sugar or dairy/non-dairy milk). I do add almond, soy, or other non-dairy milk to my chai, chamomile, or other types of dessert type teas; or, if the mood fits, I will add sugar and a non-dairy milk to black or green tea. There are no rules, or vegetarian/vegan police in my book...enjoy your vegetarian or vegan and drink how you like. Life is good :)

The healing powers of vanilla, nutmeg, and black pepper

Supplement to Day 1 "VICTORY" of Sister's Book

In my book Sister Vegetarian's 31 Days of Drama-Free Living, I start off day one with a "VICTORY" statement! I indicate how BEETS  NATURALLY eliminate toxins in our colons; and, provide antioxidants and cancer fighting properties. Besides salads, beets are great as morning meals in the form of juicing; makes great beet burgers (raw or cooked); can be saute; made into soups; added to soups...beets have limitless uses in world recipes!

On March 4, 2011, I did a Cookbook challenge of Color Me Vegan's Book's Beet Burgers. Link here for this challenge a year ago. Yesterday, I found a quicker way to make these burgers if you love juicing as I do.

Beet Juicing:
Yesterday, I did a beet juicing for my breakfast and oh so sweet and spicy!
Ingredients: I juiced the following - 3 medium beets, 1 mango peeled and chopped, 1 small apple (I used the pink lady apple), and 1 small jalapeno

Raw Vegan or Cooked Vegan beet burger from the pulp of juicings: makes 4 medium burgers (eaten raw for a raw vegan meal or baked).

Don't throw away the pulp (juicings leftovers)! It's still loaded with fiber and some nutrients! I made 4 beet burgers from the pulp of the above juicings.

Ingredients and Directions for Juice Pulp Beet Burgers: I took the leftover pulp from the juiced vegetables and fruit and placed it in a mixing bowl. I added 1 tbsp of lemon juice to bring out the flavor more of the vegetables, fruits, and jalapeno spice. I added 1/4 to 1/2 cup of bulghur for crunchiness. I added about 2 tsps of vegan liquid smoke for a smokiness and 1tsp of a vegan mesquite seasoning. I mixed everything in the bowl with my hands and formed 4 medium beet burgers.

Cooking Beet Burgers: preheat a oven to broil. Broil the burgers for an outdoor taste for 5 minutes per side, or until burgers are slightly crispy on top from the bulghur mixed in.

Raw Vegan Beet Burgers: Note: if you decide to eat these burgers as a raw vegan recipe, soak the bulghur first before mixing it to make it digestible (read this E-How link on how to prepare bulghur by soaking)

Sister's Readers Sharing Their Stories: Battzi's 6-2-12 Update

My Struggle by Battzi

There was another book with that title that caused such death and destruction in the entire world. I shall not write it here. The world knows that book to our sorrow.

My struggle is for my health. I have been going through the valley for some time now and I am thankful. Why do I say that? If I hadn't started eating the natural way, my situation would not have been focused on. Dairy products, Fast Foods, Salt, Sugar but, especially, Dairy messed me up so bad. Excessive Mucus was causing me breathing problems. I could not sleep normally as it was clogging my air passages!

I am thankful for natural eating. It saved and is saving my life. This thing with Dairy has taught me a lesson I shall never forget. If you must have milk, go plant-based milk. I had been drinking plant-based milks for only a short period of time. Elsie and her friends had been in my life a lot longer. Not their fault but mine. Stay away from sugar and salt. Leave that fast food to your grave alone.

I had abused my body so badly that my efforts to correct the abuse forced the wrongs to come forth. Between heavy Antibiotics, Breathing Treatments and the like, I got some rest. That is also important. Sleep. Get as much sleep as you can. Let go of the Stress. I was and still am under a lot of stress. That was also a cause of my illness.

I have to deal with an older brother on Dialysis, an older sister now diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. The job is off-the-chain stress, trying to make sure that Bandit and I have some place to lay our heads. You can now understand what I have been and am going through.

I'm so glad things happened as it did. Its being corrected and natural eating has truly helped. I am grateful for all of your good thoughts and prayers. They sustained Bandit and yours truly through these difficult times.

Please stay away from Dairy products! Do not place that type of stress on your system. Years of dairy caught up with me. It wasn't pretty. This is not my best post(when have I ever written a good one)but this is only the beginning of some postings of importance and urgency. Early Hint: plant a garden this year loaded with veggies.

More later. Oh, I forgot! Shame on me! A "Butter Pear" is an Avocado!
